LFW AW 2011 – Bora Aksu

Aksu was inspired by “Old movie posters and book covers of Jekyll and Hyde and Sweeney Todd were good reference points. Dark motives against an air of respectability and how to incorporate both of those characteristics into one look”. Key shapes were tailored capes, mid-length full circle skirts, corset inspired tops and maxi skirts accentuated with feminine bows and lace decoration. The main colours were foggy grey shades, metallic silver, black leathers and knit elements enriched with refreshing sapphire green.

Lady Gaga – Icon for a new generation?

After appearing in several international Vogue editorials, we can finally find Lady Gaga on the cover of the 944 magazine for January 2010. For me Lady Gaga is a real phenomenon, although i don`t really like her music, i really like her for this experimental fashion attitude. And for her guts since she told President Obama 2009 during a speech at the 2009 National Equity March in Washington, D.C, “We demand change now!”
In the January issue of 944 magazine she shows a softer, vulnerable side by wrapping herself inside victorian inspired laces. I also love the feather headpiece!

“When I say to you, ‘There is nobody like me, and there never was,’ that is a statement I want every woman to feel and make about themselves”

“I’m in a deeper, more compassionate place than where I was when I wrote The Fame,” Lady Gaga told L.A. Times pop music critic Ann Powers in a recent interview. “The truth about The Fame is that so much of myself as a woman is hinged on the idea that I can self-empower. I don’t care if you love me. I care if you love yourself.”

Beginning metamorphosis?

“Lady Gaga has emerged as a fully realized “icon 2.0” for the next generation; encapsulating the past 40 years of pop music and culture, she’s influenced as much by Warhol, Bowie and Mercury as technology-driven celebrity culture and the specter of every disgraced American starlet of the last decade”.
